When Hip-Hop Culture Crosses Borders
April 2025 — European Youth Exchange & Urban Culture
Last April, we took part in a youth exchange centered around hip-hop culture. Around twenty passionate young people from all across Europe came together for an intense and creative experience.
The days were filled with workshops exploring the core disciplines of hip-hop: graffiti, rap, beatmaking, and dance. Each day was an opportunity to explore, experiment, and share.
The exchange also had a strong dimension of transmission: we ran a workshop with secondary school students, which led to a collective creation — a mural, an original sound composition, and a choreography. A truly beautiful moment.
One of the highlights was the organisation of a jam session open to local residents: a space for sharing, connection, and celebration. Throughout the stay, jam sessions shaped both days and evenings, becoming real spaces of spontaneous expression and group cohesion.
The stay was also marked by severe flooding — an unexpected event which, despite the difficulties it caused, helped strengthen the bonds between participants and reinforced the group’s spirit of solidarity.
What’s next? A music video filmed during the stay may be released soon. And a second exchange — imagined and written directly by the participants themselves — could also take shape in the months to come. Stay tuned!
