“Ne buvons pas la tasse !” Ecological awareness activity
Belgian and French youth exchange on the theme of ecology on the island of Oléron in France
In the framework of the “Ne buvons pas la tasse ! ” project, twelve young Belgians aged between 13 and 16 went to meet twelve young French people on the island of Oléron.
For eight days, the young people were able to reflect and share on the theme of ecology. Through playful activities and time for exchange, they thought up and set up an awareness-raising activity for the general public to draw attention to the importance of preserving our planet.
Thus, we had the opportunity to visit different protected sites to explain the importance of the dunes in the ecosystem. We also had the opportunity to go paddling to visit the island’s salt marshes and understand how salt extraction works. We were able to visit a magnificent giant aquarium in La Rochelle and discover the various marine species that inhabit the sea.
The young people were able to discover the fauna and flora of the region in a fun way through a series of games proposed by a local facilitator.
To get around during this stay, it was essential for us to use the most ecological means of transport, namely the train but also bicycles!
We would like to thank the Twenty4you foundation for sending us a donation to support our action. Thanks to them, we were able to rent about 30 bikes during the whole stay in order to get around in the most ecological way possible. Their contribution also enabled us to raise awareness among the young people about the use of bicycles and, for some, to discover this means of transport. Next year we would like to present our beautiful city to the people of Oleron.
