Collective of Organisations Supporting Children and Young People in Difficulty (COSAED) in Senegal

Le Collectif des Structures d’Appui aux Enfants et jeunes en Difficultés (COSAED) au Sénégal

COSAED is a network of organisations and associations which all work independently and espouse their own views. The network seeks to help its member organisations and associations to work together and is also involved in  promoting and protecting the rights of the child, in line with the guiding principles enshrined in the instruments governing the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.

A programme-based approach was put forward by Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI or the French-speaking Community of Belgium) in 2017 and was referred to as PROMES, the Programme d’appui à la Protection des Mineurs et aux Droits de l’Enfant au Sénégal pour le secteur II (Child Protection and Rights of the Child in Senegal Support Programme for Sector II). Dynamo International, in partnership with COSAED, carried out initiatives in 2018 and 2019 within the framework of Project 12 “Sensibilisation de la société civile et des services publics aux droits de l’enfant” (Raising the awareness of civil society and the public services about the rights of the child), which was part of PROMES I 2017-2019 Support for Child Protection and the Rights of the Child in Senegal.

The DI-COSAED project aims to help promote and protect the fundamental rights of highly vulnerable children by developing awareness-raising and advocacy activities in Senegal at the regional and national levels, with a view to lobbying the local authorities to take measures and make undertakings in order to guarantee that the rights of vulnerable children are independently and sustainably protected.

Project 12 run by DI and COSAED covers seven regions of Senegal: Dakar, Kaolack, Kolda, Saint Louis, Tambacounda, Thiès and Ziguinchor.

DI and COSAED are working together to prepare a new project that they will put in place as part of PROMES II 2021-2025.
