The Bel’J programme is an initiative of the 3 Flemish, German-speaking and French communities in Belgium to help young people aged 16 to 30 discover their respective cultures and improve their language skills through a volunteering project, a youth worker mobility project or a youth exchange.
Volunteering – Bel’J allows you to discover another language community and progress in learning German or Dutch while investing in a volunteer project.
FOR WHO?
- You’re between 16 and 30
- You are French-speaking and have lived in Wallonia or Brussels for at least 2 years
WHERE?
- In Flemish or German-speaking communities
HOW LONG?
- Maximum 40 days: over a period between 2 weeks and 3 months in a row or over a period of 6 months.
FUNDING
- A flat-rate grant of 33 euros per day (with a maximum of 1.320 €)
The youth exchange – Bel’J offers you the opportunity to organize exchanges between groups of young people from different Belgian communities in order to promote values of tolerance, understanding and openness. The exchange can take the form of a creative project or a citizen gathering project.
FOR WHO?
- You are between 12 and 25 years old.
You are in contact with a clearly identified Flemish and/or German-speaking partner group similar to yours.
You form a group of at least 4 French-speaking people who have lived in Wallonia or Brussels for at least 2 years and a total group (including Flemish and/or German-speaking people) of 50 people.
WHERE?
- In one or more Communities in Belgium
HOW LONG?
- From 4 to 15 effective exchange days, successive or spread over a longer period (for example weekends)
FUNDING
- A maximum intervention of €6500 per project delivered on the basis of a budget prepared with eligible expenses (accommodation, food, travel, equipment, etc.).
- The group will have to contribute a share of 25% of the amount requested from the BIJ for meetings and 15% for creative projects. This is your share of co-financing.
The Youth Worker Mobility Programme – Bel’J is aimed at youth workers who want to cooperate with associations in the Flemish or German-speaking community. 2 types of projects are possible: job shadowing and cooperation projects.
Job shadowing (max 3 people)
The Job shadowing allows youth workers to take part in the daily work of a youth association located in the Flemish or German-speaking community in order to exchange practices, strengthen the capacities of their association and develop future cooperation.
Cooperation project (max 10 people)
The cooperation project allows youth workers to set up a collaboration project with a youth association located in the Flemish or German-speaking Community: study visit, training, creation of tools… in order to exchange expertise and good practices, to strengthen the capacities of their association and to develop new methodologies.
FOR WHO?
- You are a French speaker residing for at least 2 years in Wallonia or Brussels
- You are a youth worker (no age limit) in a recognized youth association, volunteer or professional
- Job Shadowing: single or group of 3 maximum / Cooperation project: maximum group of 10 participants
WHERE?
- In the Flemish or German-speaking Community
HOW LONG?
- Shadowing job: 5 to 20 days
- Cooperation project: 3 to 8 days which can be spread over time (for example 2 days per week for 1 month)
FUNDING
- A package of €37 per day and per participant
- Travel Expenses: Travel expenses incurred and justified are reimbursed in full (up to the amount approved in your project proposal).
- One-time costs: costs for participants who need more support. These costs must be requested and justified in advance.
